DESCRIPTION: In this part of the tutorial, we're going to do the hardest part of the work ... at least I felt this was the most difficult part of the work. Maybe because I'm not using the Path Tool too often?

Remember to save often!

Open the original picture or the copy you made of it, again.
Click on the Path Tool/Line and Arrow Tool (red arrow), set the Shape (1) to Freehand, the Color (2) to white and the Mode (no.3) to 2D Object.
Zoom in (200%) to make the next steps easier on yourself.
Draw lines (Outline Width: 1) after the whiskers of the cat (both sides) with the Line and Arrow Tool, as you can see on the screenshot.

After you've drawn all whiskers, change to the Linear Gradient Fill Tool (red arrow), Fill method: Two-Color. Set the Fill colors from grey (182/182/182) to white
(255/255/255).
Click on one whisker at the time, right click /Convert Object Type and chose From Text/Path to Image. Beginning at the top of the whisker (closest to the nose of the cat) Fill your whisker with the gradient.
Once you've recolored all the whiskers, right click/Select All Objects and right click/ Group.

For the next step we will be using our painted picture.
Go to Format/Expand Canvas. Check the Expand sides equally box, use white for the Expand color and expand 1 pixel.
Do this once again, but this time use black for the Expand color and expand  equally with 80 pixels.
Now you should have two pictures similar to those on the left.
Click on the whiskers you colored and grouped, right click and copy.
Activate the painted picture again and Paste (Ctrl+V) the whiskers. Move them to the cat's nose.

To get whiskers placed correctly, I cheated a little bit. I took a copy of the original picture and pasted it on top of the painted cat. Then right click/Properties and set the Transparency very high. Move the copy of the entire original over the painted cat's head, as shown on the left.  Now it's easy to see if the whiskers are placed correctly (red arrow).
Open the Layer Manager, click on the whiskers to activate them and move them into the correct place.
Now you can click on the original picture again and delete it. You should only have the painted cat, with the whiskers in the right position.
Merge All.

That's it! Now we've got a nice art picture from the photo, which couldn't be called a master shot (since the photo is one of mine, I guess it's ok that I criticize the quality!). But as you can see ... even bad/failed pictures can have their potential. You just have to find a way to set it off. HAVE FUN!!!
