DESCRIPTION: Achieve a porcelain look by only using Photo Impact 8. Xero has a filter called "Porcelain" if you are interested in third-party filters.

Remember to save often!

Open the picture tut010_photo and make two copies (Ctrl + D). Close the original and work on one of those copies now.
Go to Format/Highlight Midtone Shadow and set the Midtone to 25.
Go to Format/Hue & Saturation and move the slider for the Saturation all the way to the left. The settings would be like this:
0/-100/0

Ctrl+A, and go to Object/Insert Image Object/Via Copy.
Right Click/Duplicate.
You should now have 2 copies on top of your picture.

Open the Layer Manager ... that will make it much easier to work.
Take a look on the screenshot to the left:
Obj-1 = the first one, we added through the Object menu; and
Obj-2 = the one we added through right click and Duplicate.

As you can see, I've activated Obj-2 in the screenshot. For Obj-2 we will use these effects:
Effect/All/Find Edges, then go to Format/Invert (now you should have the same window as the one on the screenshot), and finally go to Effect/Blur/Gaussian Blur/Option and set the Radius to 3.

In this screenshot, I activated Obj-1 by clicking on it, but before I did so, I clicked away the eye icon (red arrow) for Obj-2 so I could see Obj-1.
For this copy we will use Effect/Emphasize Edges/Option, and set the Level to 4.

Activate Obj-2 again, Right Click/Properties /Merge, and use Lighting from the drop-down menu.

Hold down Shift and click on Obj-2 (1) and Obj-1 (2) in the Layer Manager, Right Click/Merge as Single Object (red arrow).
Click the OK button in the pop-up window.
The merged objects has a new name:  Obj-3. Right click/Properties/Merge and again apply Lighting from the drop-down menu. Close the Layer Manager, right click the picture and Merge All.
Go to Format/Highlight Midtone Shadow and use this settings:
0/-12/0

Working with the second duplicate, activate the picture, go to Effect/Blur/Gaussian Blur and set the Radius to 5.

You should now have two pictures (as shown to the left).
Copy (Ctrl+C) the b/w picture (1) and paste (Ctrl+V) this copy on top of the other picture (2).

Right click/Properties/Merge and use If Darker (1) from the drop-down menu.
For this picture I also used the Quick Command Panel - 2x minus for the Brightness (red arrow). Brightness (red arrow). Experiment with different effects.  When you are satisfied with the Brightness/ Contrast, right click/Merge All.

This is another picture made after the same tutorial ... as you can see - you easily can use landscape photos too! :)

And there's also no problem to use flower photos! :))

That's it! That's it!  As you can see, we created a picture with a porcelain look. HAVE FUN!!!
