| DESCRIPTION:
This
tutorial shows how you can make a beautiful and very
special frame to
decorate your photos or artworks ... by using PI and different
filters.
|
For this tutorial we are going to make a
lot of similar frames/borders, with the same
color/fill/pattern - using the same steps over again, so
next time I'm only referring to 2 Silver (=silver fill you've
downloaded) or 2 White (255/255/255).
Just repeat the steps
I'm explaining for the first frame/border. (Always expand
sides equally, and with the pixels mentioned in front of the
color).
To make it more easy to select a border, right click/All,
right click/Border and set the Pixels of the border for the
Border width, Direction: Inward, Shape: Box.
You can always use the Magic Wand Tool, but this way it's more
easy if you use similar colors for the background and the
border. (On the assumption that all sides have been expanded
equally!)
|
 |
Open
your picture ( - this one measures 571x321 Pixels ... the size
isn't so important here, because you'll get the same effect with
the filters even if your picture has another size.)
Adjust/Expand
Canvas/Expand sides equally: 2 White.
Right click/All,
right click/Border: Border width: 2 (white hand), Direction:
Inward (red arrow), Shape: Box.
Click OK and keep the border selected. |
|
 |
Go to Effect/Fill/Image (white hand)/File
and find the file of the silverfill (red arrow) you've downloaded. Remember to check the box Tile
the image (white arrow).
Click OK.
Deselect the border. |
|
 |
Expand:
10 White, select the border and go to Edit/Fill/ Gradient, and
fill the border with a gradient that fits your picture.
Here 1. Fill type (white hand) and the option two-color ...
98/135/190 (red arrow) and 0/42/100 (white arrow).
Click OK and deselect the border.
2 Silver |
|
 |
Expand: 35 White, select the border and fill it with the same gradient
as before.
Keep the border selected and go to Effect/VM Natural (red
arrow)/Ripper (white arrow), and use these settings (1): 7/255/128/128/113/39.
Your screenshot might look different, since I'm using Filters
Unlimited 2 - but the settings are the same anyway.
Click Apply and deselect the border.
2 Silver
|
|
|
 |
Expand: 45 White, select the border and fill it with the same gradient
as before.
Keep the border selected and go to Effect/Cybia/ ScreenWorks,
and choose Lace Screen (red arrow).
Click OK and keep the border selected.
|
|
 |
Selection/Select
by Color
Range, set the Similarity to 100 (white hand) and zoom
your border in (white arrow). Use the
Eyedropper (red arrow) and choose the black spots in our last
border (see screenshot - red circle).
Edit/Fill/Image and fill the selection with the same silver
fill as before.
Selection/None, - that removes the selection we made with the
Color Range, but your border should be still selected!
|
|
|
|
Go
to Almathera/A Halo and use these settings:
Black (red arrow)
thickness: 21
transparency: 66
Click OK and deselect the border.
2 Silver
Merge All.
|
|
| That's it! A beautiful frame for any kind of photo
or artwork ...
done with PI and different filters. HAVE FUN!!!
