DESCRIPTION: This tutorial shows you how you can make a beautiful frame to decorate your photos with.
The tutorial was originally written for PSP by Lisette and Karin, and I got their permission to rewrite the tutorial for PhotoImpact. You'll find the original tutorial "Judith" here and don't forget - have a look at their homepage L&K's Wonder Site. You'll find a lot of interesting things there - PSP tutorials (several languages), filters, masks, textures, brushes, + + +. It's really worth a visit :))

Remember to save often!

To make it more easy to select a border, right click/All, right click/Border and set the Pixels of the border for the Border width, Direction: Inward, Shape: Box and Soft edge: 0. You can always use the Magic Wand Tool, but this way it's more easy if you use similar colors for the background and the border. (On the assumption that all sides have been expanded equally!)

Open the picture/photo you want to use. To get the same effect as in this tutorial, resize the photo to a Height of  400 Pixels. If necessary use the Focus (Format/Focus) to correct the photos sharpness.
If you use this photo and want to add a colored frame, change the photo into a RGB True Color picture.

Format/Expand Canvas/Expand sides equally: 15 White.
Right click/All, right click/Border: Border width: 15 (red arrow), Direction: Inward, Shape: Box and Soft edge: 0.
Click OK and keep the border selected.

Effect/Xero/Tekstya, click the Load button (white arrow) and find the texture file you've downloaded (red arrow) and saved into your Xero filter.
Click OK and keep the border selected.

Effect/Almathera/A Halo and use these settings:
Black + 15/61.
Deselect the border.

Expand: 50 White, select the border and go to Effect/Xero/Tekstya.
That's how your filter window should look like now - it has the same settings from the file we used before:
Foreground: Black
Background: White
+ -100/-2/143/161/46/5
+ Use source.
You can always change the colors to your needs, and if you find nice settings you want to use later, click the Save button (red arrow) and save your settings.
Click OK and keep the border selected.

Go to Effect/RCS Filter Pak 1.0 (red arrow)/RCS Digi-Lens - Atomic Split (white arrow) and use this setting (1):
Effect: 210.
Your screenshot might look different, since I'm using Filters Unlimited 2 - but the settings are the same anyway.
Click Apply and deselect the border.

Expand: 15 White, select the border, go to Effect/Xero/Tekstya and use the same settings as before.
Keep the border selected, go to Effect/Almathera/A Halo and use these settings:
Black (red arrow)
thickness: 15
transparency: 72.
Click OK and deselect the border.

Activate the first 15 Pixels border, right click/Shadow and use these settings:
Color: Black (white hand) +
5.one (red arrow) +
70/102/10.
Click OK.

Merge All.

By using colors instead of a b/w photo, your frame could look like this one :)

That's another example how your frame could look like :)

That's it! A beautiful frame for any kind of photo or artwork ... done with PI and different filters. HAVE FUN!!!
