DESCRIPTION: This tutorial shows you how to make a beautiful and special frame to decorate your photos or artworks ... by using PI and different filters.

Remember to save often!

To make it more easy to select a border, right click/All, right click/Border and set the Pixels of the border for the Border width, Direction: Inward, Shape: Box. You can always use the Magic Wand Tool, but this way it's more easy if you use similar colors for the background and the border. (On the assumption that all sides have been expanded equally!)

Open the picture, and choose a color from the picture for your new background color (white arrow). For this example I used - 204/162/186.

Go to Adjust/Expand Canvas/Expand sides equally 15 pixel, Expand: 229/208/220.
Right click/All, right click/Border and set the Border width to 15
(white hand), Direction: Inward (red arrow), Shape: Box.

Effect/Neology (red arrow)/Checkered Tiling (white arrow) and use these settings (1):
Cell amount: 128
Alpha toggle: 255.
Your screenshot might look different, since I'm using Filters Unlimited 2 - but the settings are the same anyway.
Click Apply and keep the border selected.

Selection/Select by Color Range, set the Similarity to 100 (white arrow), use the Eyedropper (red arrow) and choose the black color in our last border (see screenshot - red circle).
Edit/Fill/Color and fill the selection with your Back- ground color (204/162/186).
Selection/None, - your border should be still selected.
Go to Effect/Almathera/A Halo and use these settings:
Background + 12/5.
Deselect.

Expand: 64 Color (229/208/220) and select the border.

Effect/Xero/Art Grain and use these settings:
Soft grain: 127
Hard grain: 161
Saturation: 127.
Bias: Midtones (white hand)
Defination: 2 (red arrow).
Click OK and Merge All.
(If you are using an old version of the Xero/Art Grain filter, you just use the settings: 127/161/127.)

Right click/All, right click/Border and set the Border width to 30, Direction: Inward, Shape: Box and Soft edge: 0.

Choose the Selection Tool, Mode: Plus (white hand), and Shape: Square (red arrow).
Draw a small square outside the 30 Pixel selection, as you can see on the screenshot. I helped myself a little bit and fixed the size of the square to 34 Pixel (1).
By that way, I only had to put the square on the right place (white arrow).

Repeat the square selection on the right corner on the bottom.

You can always use other Shapes or you can make selections on just one corner, or even all four corners.

Go to Almathera/A Halo and use these settings:
Background (red arrow)
thickness: 12 / transparency: 5.
Click OK and deselect.

Expand: 15 Color (229/208/220), select the border, go to Effect/Neology and use the same settings as before (128/255).

Keep the border selected and go to Selection/Select by Color Range and select the black color in our last frame as we did before. Fill the selection with your Background color (Edit/Fill /Color).
Selection/None -  your border should be still selected.

Effect/Bordermania/Frame #2, and use these settings:
Border Width: 15
Frame Width: 15
Highlight Intensity: 60
Shadow Intensity: 40
+ Notch Corners (red arrow).

Merge All.

That's it! A beautiful, and special frame for any kind of photo and artwork ... done with PI and different filters. HAVE FUN!!!
