DESCRIPTION: This tutorial shows you how you can make a beautiful frame to decorate your photos with ... by using PI and different filters.

Remember to save often!

For this tutorial, as for all of them, we are going to make a lot of similar frames/borders, with the same color/fill/pattern - using the same steps over again -, so next time I'm only referring to 1 Color (=Foreground color), 2 White or 1 Gold (=GoldFillPattern). Just repeat the steps I'm explaining for the first frame/border. (Always expand sides equally, and with the pixels mentioned in front of the color.)

To make it more easy to select a border, right click/All, right click/Border and set the Pixels of the border for the Border width, Direction: Inward, Shape: Box. You can always use the Magic Wand Tool, but this way it's more easy if you use similar colors for the background and the border. (On the assumption that all sides have been expanded equally!)

Open the picture, choose a Foreground color - 150/161/132 (white arrow). Go to Format/Expand Canvas/Expand sides equally 1 pixel, Expand: White. Right click/Convert to Object, right click/Shadow and use the 5.one (red arrow) with these settings: 16/99/7. Deselect.

5 Color, select the border and go to Effect/Bordermania/  Frame #2: 5/5/110/130 + Notch Corners.
Deselect.

1 White.

Expand sides equally 2 pixels, Expand: White. Select the border, go to Edit/Fill/Image/File and find the file - tut_frame_032_GoldFillPattern.  Remember to check the box Tile the image. Click OK. Selection/None.

1 White.

Expand: 5 Color, select the border and go to Effect/ Fills an Textures/Texture Filter/Embossed. By clicking the small icon (red arrow) you can select, add and delete textures. Find the texture you've downloaded, texture-dominodesign and add it to your Texture Filter. Select the texture and use these settings (1):
100/43/5/0 + Direction: 45
Click Apply Current Frame Effect to Image (white arrow).
Keep the border selected, go to Effect/Bordermania/ Frame #2: 5/5/110/130 + Notch Corners.
Deselect.

1 Gold + 1 White.

Expand: 18 Color, select the border and go to Effect/ Almathera/A Halo and apply these settings twice:
White + 18/60
Deselect.

1 White + 2 Gold + 1 White.

5 Color, select the border and go to Effect/Fills an Textures/Texture Filter/Embossed and use the same texture with the same settings as we did for our last 5 pixels color border.
Keep the border selected, go to Effect/Bordermania/ Frame #2: 5/5/110/130 + Notch Corners.
Deselect.

1 Gold + 1 White.

Expand: 24 Color - 150/161/132 and select the border.  Right click/Convert to Object, right click/Duplicate.
Open a New Image, Canvas: White Image size: User-defined:
Width: 490 and Height: 590 Pixels. (That's 100 pixels extra on the Width and the Height from the Active image.)
Open the lace tile you've downloaded (1), copy (Ctrl+C) the tile, activate the white image (2) and go to Edit/Fill/Image (red arrow)/Clipboard (white arrow). Check the box Tile the image (3) and click OK.
Close the original lace tile (1).

Activate the big lace image (1), copy (Ctrl+C) the image, activate the original picture (2) and go to Edit/Paste Into Selection and place the texture as you wish. (By that way you can find the right place for the pattern, and place it exactly where you want.) Now you can close the big texture image.
Right click/Properties/Merge: Multiply (red arrow).

Open the Layer Manager, hold down Ctrl and pick our last two (24 pixels) borders (white hands).
Right click/Merge as Single Object. Click Yes on the pop-up window, and close the layer Manager.
Go to Effect/Almathera/A halo and use these settings:
White + 18/60 and Deselect.

1 White + 2 Gold + 1 White.

Expand: 32 Color, select the border and go to Effect/ Filter Factory A/Pool Shadow. Apply these settings twice:
151/208/118/146/79/192/35/147.
Keep the border selected, and apply the same texture filter as before.
Keep the border selected.
Effect/Almathera/A Halo and use these settings:
White (red arrow)
thickness: 27 / transparency: 39.
Deselect.

1 White + 2 Gold.

Merge All.

Open deco01 and deco 02, and resize them. Right click/Properties/Position & Size. Check the box for Keep the aspect ratio:
deco01 - Width: 219 pixels
deco02 - Width: 21 pixels
Change the Mode from 2D Object to 3D Round and place them where you want them to be. Find a nice preset that fits your picture - I used one from the Material Gallery/Metallic/M15, but I removed the Bump and the Shadow and saved the new preset (2) into My Gallery (1).
For deco 2 - right click/Duplicate (red arrow), Flip Horizontally and move to the opposite side. Right click/Duplicate and Rotate Left 90 degrees and move it opposite to the first deco02.

Merge All.

That's it! A beautiful frame for any kind of photo or artwork ... done with PI and different filters. HAVE FUN!!!
