DESCRIPTION:
This tutorial shows you how you can make a beautiful frame to decorate your
photos with ... by using PI, a texture and different filters. Be aware - because I
use a lot of screenshots, this tutorial has 2 parts!
|
For this tutorial, as for all of them, we are going to make a
lot of similar frames/borders, with the same
color/fill/pattern - using the same steps over again -, so
next time I'm only referring to 2 Color (=Foreground color) or 2
Black. Just repeat the steps
I'm explaining below. (Always expand
sides equally, and with the pixels mentioned in front of the
color.)
To make it more easy to select a border, right click/All,
right click/Border and set the Pixels of the border for the
Border width, Direction: Inward, Shape: Box.
You can always use the Magic Wand Tool, but this way it's more
easy if you use similar colors for the background and the
border. (On the assumption that all sides have been expanded
equally!)

 |
Open the picture and choose a
Foreground color - 181/154/146 (white hand).
2 Color + 1 Black.
Expand: 5 Color, select the border and go to Effect/
Bordermania/Frame #2. Use these settings:
5/5/110/130 + Notch Corners.
Deselect.
2 Color + 1 Black.
Expand: 16 Color, select the border and go to Effect/ Greg's
Factory Output Vol.II/ Waffle, and use these settings: X Size: 5
/
Y Size: 5.
Keep the border selected. |
|
 |
Go
to Effect/Eye Candy 4000/Bevel Boss and use these settings:
Basic (red arrow):
Bevel Width: 8.38
Bevel Height Scale: 18
Smoothness: 73
Bevel Placement: Inside marquee
Darken Deep Areas: 2
+ check the box for Shade Interior.
Lighting (white arrow):
Direction: 135
Inclination: 45
Highlight Brightness: 100
Highlight Size: 91
Highlight Color: White
Shadow Color: Black
Click OK and click 2x the + for the Brightness adjustment
(white hand).
Use the Return key to deselect the picture. |

And one more time -
Expand: 5 Color, select the border and go to Effect/

 |
Expand:
30 Color, select the border, right click/Convert to Object, right
click/ Duplicate (red arrow).
We want now to fill this border with the texture pattern, but
if we use the Edit/Fill/Image command, PI fills the border
with the texture, but not the way I wanted the pattern to look
like. In the 2.part of this tutorial I shall explain how we
can fill the border, so the pattern really shows
off.
|
|
| That's it for the first part of
this tutorial! In the second part I will show you how you can
place the texture pattern exactly where you want. HAVE FUN!!!
