DESCRIPTION: This tutorial shows you how you can make beautiful frames for all kind of pictures ... by almost only using PI. This time we are going to use the 3rd party filter only to make the borders look like borders.

Remember to save often!

To make it more easy to select a border, right click/All, right click/Border and set the Pixels of the border for the Border width, Direction: Inward, Shape: Box. You can always use the Magic Wand Tool, but this way it's more easy if you use similar colors for the background and the border. (On the assumption that all sides have been expanded equally!)

Open the picture you want to use.
Go to Adjust/Expand Canvas/Expand sides equally 1 pixel, Expand: White and select the border. Go to Effect/Fills and Textures/Kaleidoscope Fill, click Edit (red arrow) choose palette 008, Pattern template 5 (1) and Pattern sample 6 (white arrow).
Deselect.

Expand: 1 pixel, Color: Black.

Add one more time a frame like the golden one. Deselect.

We are going to make several more frames like these frames (same steps), so next time I'm only referring to frame 1 (golden one) or to frame 2 (black one). Just repeat the steps we've done right now.

Expand: 5 pixels, Expand color: Black. Select the border, go to Photo/Noise/Add Noise/Options. Choose Uniform (red arrow), Monochromatic (white arrow) and set the Variance (1) to 50.
Deselect.

Add frames 1-2-1.

Merge All.

Expand: 15 pixels, Expand color: Black. Select the border, go to Photo/Enhance/Diffuse Glow and use these settings:
12/14/2 + Custom color: White (red arrow).
Click OK and deselect the border.

Add frames 1-2.

Expand sides equally 5 pixels, Expand color: White. Select the border, and go to Effect/Fills and Textures/ Kaleidoscope Fill and use the same golden pattern as we did for our 1 pixel borders.
Keep the border selected, and go to Effect/Bordermania/  Frame #2: 5/5/136/41.
Merge All.

Expand sides equally 10 pixels, Expand color: Black. Select the border, go to
Photo/Enhance/Diffuse Glow and use same settings as before: 12/14/2 + White.
Deselect the border.

Add a frame 1.

Merge All.

Expand: 30 pixels, Expand color: Black. Select the border, open your EP/Galleries (red arrow)/Particle/ Stars (1). Right click the thumbnail Stars 10 (2)/Modify Properties and Apply and use these settings for the Basic (white hand) in the Particle window (3):
70/8/0/5 + 38/21/100/-7/45/100
Change the colors (red circle):
1.one: 255/245/162
2.one: 205/192/112
3.one: 180/166/92

Now start to move the stars as you wish with your mouse. There are a lot of stars under the picture, but as soon as you move the mouse over it you will easily find out where they are (red arrow). It's up to you how many stars are showing.
Click OK/Apply Current Frame Effect to Image and keep the border selected.

Effect/Bordermania/Frame #2, with these settings:
30/30/83/99. Deselect.

Add frames 1-2-1.

Merge All and Save As.

That's it! A beautiful, special frame for a your pictures ... most of it done with PI, with a little help from Bordermania. HAVE FUN!!!
