DESCRIPTION: This tutorial shows how you can make a beautiful and special frame to decorate your photos or artworks ... by only using PI.

Remember to save often!

For this tutorial we are using 2 main colors - the Foreground color and the Background color -, so next time, for making it more easy, I'm only referring to 1 Dark (Foreground color) or 1 Light (Background color). If not mentioned otherwise, always expand the sides equally with the pixels mentioned in front of the color.

To make it more easy to select a border, right click/All, right click/Border and set the Pixels of the border for the Border width, Direction: Inward, Shape: Box.
You can always use the Magic Wand Tool, but this way it's more easy if you use similar colors for the background and the border. (On the assumption that all sides have been expanded equally!)

Set your Background and Foreground color to fit your picture - here I used 80/113/146 (red arrow) for the Foreground color, and 207/222/241 (white hand) for the Background color.

Adjust/Expand Canvas/Expand sides equally: 1 Dark (Foreground color).
Right click/All, right click/Border: Border width: 1 (white arrow), Direction: Inward, Shape: Box and Anti-aliasing.
Click OK.

Right click/Convert to Object.

Right click/Shadow, and use these settings:
Color: Black (white hand)
Altern.: 5.(red arrow)
Transparency: 50
Shadow size: 99
Soft edge: 7.
Click OK and Merge All.

3 Light + 1 Dark

Right click/All, right click/Convert to Object, and deselect the picture (Return key).

In case you need to freshen up your memory on how to save a mask into the EP - you can take a look at one of my other tutorials, where I explain a little bit more about how to use a mask in PI. You'll find the tut here.

Expand: 30 Light.
Activate the picture (it's an object now), right click/Shadow, and use these settings:
Black + 1.altern. + default settings (10/10/50/100/10).

Deselect the picture.

Open the Easy Palette/Object Libraries (red arrow) and double click on my mask (1).

Edit/Fill/Color (white hand) and choose your Foreground color: Dark (red arrow).
Deselect the mask (Space bar, or Selection/ None).

1 Dark + 3 Light + 1 Dark.

Expand: 30 Light.
Right click/All, right click/Border: Border width: 10, Direction: Inward, Shape: Box and Anti-aliasing.
Keep the border selected.
Choose the Paintbrush Tool (white arrow), Size: 1, Color: Dark (white hand), Trans: 0 and Soft edge: 0.
Go to Effect/Creative, and choose Paint on Edges (red arrow). Keep the border selected.

Right click/Convert to Object, right click/ Shadow, and use these settings:
Color: Black (white hand)
Altern.: 5.(red arrow)
Transparency: 50
Shadow size: 100
Soft edge: 10.
Click OK and Merge All.

Now, you're done, and the frame is finished.  :))

That's it! A beautiful frame for any kind of photo or artwork ... done with only PI. HAVE FUN!!!
