DESCRIPTION: This tutorial shows how you can make a beautiful and special frame to decorate your photos or artworks ... by using PI and one 3rd party filter.

Remember to save often!

For this tutorial we are using 2 main colors - the Foreground color and the Background color -, so next time, for making it more easy, I'm only referring to 2 Dark (Foreground color) or 2 Light (Background color). Just repeat the steps I'm explaining for the first frame/border. (Always expand sides equally, and with the pixels mentioned in front of the color).

To make it more easy to select a border, right click/All, right click/Border and set the Pixels of the border for the Border width, Direction: Inward, Shape: Box.
You can always use the Magic Wand Tool, but this way it's more easy if you use similar colors for the background and the border. (On the assumption that all sides have been expanded equally!)

Set your Background and Foreground color to fit your picture - here I used 140/102/132 (red arrow) for the foreground color, and 218/203/215 (white arrow) for the Background color.

Expand Canvas/Expand sides equally: 1 Dark (Foreground color/ white hand).

Right click/All, right click/Border: Border width: 1 (white hand), Direction: Inward (red arrow), Shape: Box and and Anti-aliasing.
Click OK and keep the border selected.
Right click/Convert to Object.

Right click/Shadow, and use these settings:
Color: Black (white hand)
Alternative: 5. (red arrow)
Transparency: 0
Shadow size: 99
Soft edge: 7.
Click OK and Merge All.

Expand: 15 Light, select the border and go to Effect/ UnPlugged Tools (red arrow)/Interlace (white arrow) and use these settings (1):
1/128/0/0.
Your screenshot might look different, since I'm using Filters Unlimited 2 - but the settings are the same anyway.
Click Apply.

If you don't have the UnPlugged Tools filter you can use the filter Entrelacement from Jeux de lignes, with these settings:
0/0/0/2/1/150/255/0.

Merge All.

Now we shall expand the canvas again, but the filter we used made it unnecessary to expand all sides equally - there is a strong line on the top of the picture, so this time go to Adjust/Expand, use the Foreground color (white hand), unmark the box "Expand sides equally" (red arrow) and use these settings (1):
Top: 0/Left: 1/Right: 1/Bottom: 1.
Click OK.

Expand sides equally: 5 Light

Expand sides equally: 1 Dark. Right click/All, right click/ Border: Border width: 1,  Direction: Inward, Shape: Box and and Anti-aliasing.
Keep the border selected, right click/Convert to Object, right click/Shadow:
Black + 5. + 0/99/7 (same as before!).

Merge All.

Expand: 15 Light, select the border and go to Effect/ UnPlugged Tools (red arrow)/Interlace (white arrow) and use these settings (1):
0/0/1/128.
Click Apply.

As before - if you don't have the UnPlugged Tools filter you can use the filter Entrelacement from Jeux de lignes, with these settings:
0/0/0/2/1/150/0/0.

Merge All.

Also this time we shall expand the canvas, but now there is a strong line on the left side of the picture, so go to Adjust/Expand, use the Foreground color (white hand), unmark the box "Expand sides equally" (red arrow) and use these settings (1):
Top: 1/Left: 0/Right: 1/Bottom: 1.
Click OK, right click/All, right click/Border: Border width: 1,  Direction: Inward, Shape: Box and Anti-aliasing.  Keep the border selected, right click/Convert to Object, right click/Shadow:
Black + 5. + 0/99/7 (same as before!).

Merge All.

Expand: 30 Light.

Expand Canvas/Expand sides equally: 1 Dark (Foreground color). Right click/All, right click/Border: Border width: 1,  Direction: Inward, Shape: Box and and Anti-aliasing.  Click OK and keep the border selected.
Right click/Convert to Object, right click/Shadow:
Black (white hand)
5. alternative (red arrow) and these settings: 0/99/9.

Merge All.

1 Light + 1 Dark + 1 Light + 1 Dark.

That's it! A beautiful frame for any kind of photo or artwork ... done with PI and one 3rd party filter. HAVE FUN!!!
